Not the earliest of Batman origins but his origin has changed and been repeatedly flushed out of the decades/almost century now. I liked it a lot although catwoman needs some hair. Definitely liked Miller's style of depicting each chapter as month, he keeps this up in subsequent works like long halloween.

A great representation of Batman's first year as a crime fighter. I love how it inspired Batman Begins. This too should have been longer for the money I spent, especially considering how long The Dark Knight Returns is.

great, great, great. the day bye day "agenda like" narration is very enjoyable and a very intense "death of bruce wayne's parents" scene. this version of the dark knight's origins is my favorite, so far. i read it and i loved it. the scenario is great, the drawings are amasing, the atmosphere is just the right one for batman's birth. the only remark is for catwoman, as i was reading i wanted to know more about here, or not see her at all.

To call it the greatest Batman story ever told is an understatement. Frank Miller wrote this coming off of the other greatest Batman story, The Dark Knight Returns, which depicted Batmans final days, while this depicts his first year. Its actually as much a Commisioner Gordon book as it is a Batman book. They live out parallel stories, both come to Gotham to fight injustice, crime, and corruption, but the ways they carry out that task are entirely different. If you're a Batman fan and haven't read this, get your credit card and buy it this instant, you'll be doing yourself a favor

Fantastic to see how the Batman first starts his career.

Frank Miller's take on the Dark Knight is absolutely wonderful, and hence completely engaging. The artwork is also well done by Mazzucchelli, and together they've created a masterpiece with their story of Batman's beginnings. They could've done a piece focused solely on Gordon and I probably would've enjoyed it just as much.
