In an inexplicable worldwide event, forty-seven extraordinary children were spontaneously born by women who'd previously shown no signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of the children; when asked why, his only explanation was, "To save the world."

These seven children form The Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers. Their first adventure at the age of ten pits them against an erratic and deadly Eiffel Tower, piloted by the fearsome zombie-robot Gustave Eiffel. Nearly a decade later, the team disbands, but when Hargreeves unexpectedly dies, these disgruntled siblings reunite just in time to save the world once again.

A really great series , short and sweet , or rather bitter sweet but still an interesting read with some hilarious writing and visuals to go along with it.

Wonderful graphic novel. I found it delightful and exciting. It was a page turner all the way through to the end which came much to quickly and I could only have hoped there was a sequel to it or I can find more along the same lines to enjoy such as it. I recommend it to the adult crowd and am sure it will be enjoyed!!

  • Jun 21, 2012 from Traralgon, Vic

  • Apr 22, 2011 from western australia

wonderful! i loved every minute of it and im not a huge comic fan! the storyline was epic, the only bad thing was it could of been a bit longer. i cant wait to sink my teeth into more!

  • Apr 21, 2011 from Australia

The order arrived really quickly and everything was in good condition, really happy with it

  • Jan 18, 2011 from PA

The sense of humor is fantastically witty; the character's personality flaws lend themselves to a sense of snark worthy of the American Comic's origins. An exceptional and all too short read.

  • Jan 04, 2011 from Australia

Great story and art, beautifully collected in this edition. Would definitely recommend.

  • Oct 28, 2010

I didn't expect much because I thought a lot of the summaries had given away the plot but it didn't. I was amazed at how much detail was in such little dialogue. It's my first comic book and I have just bought the next of the UA series - Dallas. A must read!

  • Oct 23, 2010 from apex, nc

The writing is smart, but funny. The story is very engaging. I loved it

  • Oct 22, 2010 from Colombia

It's clever and intense... This renewed my passion for comics and took it to a whole different level.

  • Mar 02, 2010 from Amsterdam

    Clever, strange, atmospheric. Good reading.

  • Nov 25, 2009 from PA

I love my chemical romance and the book was great! 5 stars!!

  • Oct 28, 2009 from West Virginia

Creative, unique, wonderful storyline. I can't wait to see what happens next.

  • Jul 06, 2009 from Lake Jackson, TX

To be quite honest, after seeing all the great reviews for this TPB, I decided to get it. What I found wasn't what I was expecting at all. The story starts off with me trying to figure which character was who and wondering how all these plot holes made the book very confusing. But as I kept reading, it got easier to understand but alot of plot holes made the writing sketchy and confusing. Spoiler here: At the ending when the suite is just stopped by one person's telekinetic powers. Seems like it was just thrown in there. The art was pretty good, but nothing I have seen before (Mignola is better). Just an overall disappointment from all the good things I have heard about it.

  • Mar 24, 2009 from Sweden

Great service, no hustle whatsoever. And a darn good comic.

  • Mar 20, 2009 from V-mont

i have to say i really dont like my chemical romance, no offence to those of you who do but i allways thought of them as a hot topic pop band. but i am a huge fan of the umbrella academy its got great charecters, story lines and atmosphere. i have to take my hat off to gerard way. not that he,I or you would care but i have much more respect for him after reading this. the art work is also exceptional especially the cover art (the first issue i got was dallas #2 now thats a sexy chimp

  • Feb 08, 2009 from Illinois

Im a HUGE fan of My Chemical Romance, and when I heard this was coming out I just had to buy it.I've really never picked up a comic and when I started reading it, it was AMAZING!I couldent put it down, I've never read anything better. This is a GREAT book. BUY IT!

  • Jan 30, 2009 from Madrid

This's been a great surprise. First, I'd don't give a damm for an emocore singer writing comics, but as the pages passed by, the atmosphere started to involve me and the story really captivated. B work is impressive and resembles to "The league of extraordinary gentelmen" and "Hellboy" are not by chance. I'm waiting for more Umbrella Academy episodes!

  • Jan 14, 2009 from Ontario, Canada

Delivery was delayed, but I got an email notifying me that it would be, which was much appreciated :) Packaging was standard - the box looked a bit rough after traveling from Milwaukee to Ontario, but everything inside was in perfect condition ;) I'm very happy with the product and will definitely be ordering from TFAW in the future!

  • Jan 03, 2009 from Australia

A brilliant consolidation of Gerard Way & Gabriel Ba's "Umbrella Academy". A must have for any collector of the series!

  • Dec 29, 2008 from Indiana

The plot was twisted, gothic, and genius, as written only by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. Great book to expand the imagination.

  • Dec 20, 2008 from Paducah, Ky

Its original, its exciting, its definetly worth a look.

  • Dec 09, 2008 from Arizona

Perfect for an Umbrella Academy fan or someone who wants to catch up. The original concept art is a nice bonus along with the seamless issue-to-issue reading. A must-have for the collector with an artful soul and a twisted mind.

  • Dec 01, 2008 from CT

It's not just all the issues in one, it also has extra's where Gerard describes his original ideas of the characters compared to Gabriel's.

  • Nov 06, 2008 from Minneapolis, Mn

It was good. Not stellar, but good.

  • Nov 03, 2008 from Fall River, MA

Awesome Book Gotta Love The Umbrella Academy!

  • Aug 16, 2008 from North Hollywood, CA

This is a great series and I loved all the commentary and seeing Gerard's original sketches, not to mention the mini story that was floating around before the series came out.

  • Aug 15, 2008 from Florida

I really enjoyed this complete book of Umbrella Academy's first adventure. The early drawings were the cherry on top!

  • Aug 11, 2008 from Canada

I love the graphic novel as it gives you more insight to all things comic in relation to this series to which I have the comic books. It came in perfect condition and was on time as far as delivery goes. Thanks very much!

  • Aug 01, 2008 from NJ

Great way to catch up on all the issues at one time and much sturdier that the individual comic. Really can't wait for Series 2.

  • Jul 28, 2008 from Italy

    Amazing!! XD

  • Jul 26, 2008 from San Francisco Bay Area

    Super excellent read!

  • Jul 24, 2008 from Reading UK

This was amazing! At first I thought it was just the six editions of the umbrella academy which i already had! But when I saw that it had the drawings Gerard actually sent in and it even included the special edition ones that had come out like the one that came out of free comic book day it was just even better!

Even if it hadn't included these bonuses I would still have brought it but with these bonuses it was even more worth it! I love it and still have it it's plastic covering! It's a very special thing! and i'm very thankful to TFAW for giving me this wonderful book!

  • Jul 22, 2008 from MA

    Arrived in excellent condition.

  • Jul 20, 2008 from Roanoke, VA

Gerard Way and Gabriel B have seriously put their best into this series. I'm a bigger fan of this series than I am of Mr. Way's band. This is definitely a critic turned fan situation. I'm happy to say I was wrong about him.

  • Jul 20, 2008 from Denver, Colorado

Way's Umbrella Academy was a real treat for me to read. In addition to his unique and plot line and his brilliant characters, Ba's artwork adds the cherry on top to this gripping series. Kuddos to Way for spicing up superheros once again. I'll be eagerly looking forward to the next installment.

  • Jun 26, 2008 from Missouri

  • Mar 27, 2008 from Nottinghamshire U.K.

It will be fantastic to have these as a TPB so I'll be able to read them as many times as I want without feeling guilty about spoiling my original copies which I want to keep in mint condition always :-)

  • Mar 21, 2008 from Kuwait

The comics were beautifully written and drawn. They were addictive and entertaining. Gerard and Gabriel did a great job.
