Bagging & Boarding

Proper Comic Book Storage

The condition of a comic book is directly associated with its value. Bagging & boarding your comics is the first step in making sure your comics stay in the best condition possible.

  1. Store your comics upright! Yeah they look cool stacked up in huge piles next to your bed, but stacking your comic books like that will cause the spines to "roll," which means they bend or curl upward because of the staples. Using a comic book longbox (or shortbox) is the best way to make sure that your comics are properly stored upright. Remember that ordinary cardboard is itself acidic, so storage in cardboard boxes may be hazardous to your collection. Comic long/short boxes are the best way to ensure your comics are properly stored upright.
  2. After you have bagged and boarded your comic books and put them in boxes while laying upright, you need to find a place to store them. Light, heat and humidity are some of the major causes of the paper in your comic books turning yellow. So keep your books cool, dark and dry.

Store comic books away from direct light sources, even florescent, which contains high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. UV lights are like sunlight, and will quickly fade the cover inks.

Temperatures must also be carefully regulated. Fungus and mold thrives in higher temperatures, so the lower the temperature, the longer the life of your collection. Never store your collection directly against a wall, particularly an outside wall. Condensation and poor air circulation will encourage mold and fungus growth.

  3. Always properly handle your comics. Your mother told you this hundreds of times and now it's our turn: wash your hands! Eating a pizza and handling your prized comics is not the best way to make sure they maintain a reasonable condition and value.

How TFAW.com Bag & Board Comic Service Works

Our service is simple: for just $0.25 per comic we will bag and board your comics for you prior to packing your order. This not only helps protect them once they get to you, but makes your package more sturdy during the shipping process.

For In-Stock Comics:

After you've placed your in-stock comics into your shopping cart, click the "Add" button under the Add Bag & Board option.

The page will refresh and your cart will now contain one bag and board for each in-stock comic. Proceed through the rest of checkout as usual.

NOTE: If you choose to add bag & boards to your in-stock comics order, all in-stock comics for that order will come with this option. Each time you place an in-stock comics order, you will need to manually add Bag & Boards.

For Pre-Order/Backorder Comics:

Log into your account and select the "Yes" Bag & Board checkbox on the Pre-Order Shipping Options page.

Then click the "Save Pre-Order Shipping Preferences" button to save your preferences. Our friendly customer service staff will then place each pre-order/subscription comic in its own polypropylene bag with a cardboard backing board before we ship your order.

NOTE: You may activate or deactivate this service at any time. Just log into your account to manage your preferences, but please be aware that this account setting must be active at the time that the order is shipped in order for the bagging and boarding service to be recognized.

Sorry, we cannot add Bags & Boards to orders that have already been placed. Additionally, the bag and board service is only available for comic purchases, and does not apply to any book/graphic novel purchases.

Since the Bag & Board Service is an account setting you will not be able to pick and choose which comics are bagged and boarded--it is an all-or-nothing setting. If you activate the Bag & Board Service, all of your pre-order/subscription comics will be bagged and boarded.

If you have any other questions about our Bag & Board Service, please contact us.
