This is a great comic! I cant believe the scope of the story Joss Whedon has presented. As big as the story unfolds, there are still great personal moments that have left me breathless.
The artwork is top notch and the writing is better than anything they could have put on screen. The only thing that keeps me from going to an all 5 star rating, is that Angel After the Fall is much better. |

Mar 13, 2008 - Sonia from Rutherford, NJ: |
| Just that I can get a new fix for the Buffy show (arguably the best show in TV history) is enough to warrant 3 stars...the extra 2 stars are for continuing the story as the show would have, with the same nuances, mysteries and growth. |

 |
Mar 10, 2008 - John from Seattle, WA: |
| Kudos to Joss and crew for such a well done series. I was afraid season eight in comic form would be more about demons and less about the relationships that made the TV series so extraordinary. Glad I was mistaken.
No. 11 shows once again, the one without the superpower continues to be the most loyal and insightful... even with half the sight. |

I was a fan of the series and an even bigger fan of the comic! In this comic Buffy meets a new threat (who is supposedly going to bring about the last moments of every slayer on Earth!!)
He has the appearance and all the powers of a superhero but all the attitude and menacing character of a very high powered villain.
He tells Buffy things about herself and other slayers and brings about a shadow of doubt over Buffy's mind and heart and the future of herself and every slayer.

SPOILER ALERT
The kiss, yes the kiss was of Buffy to wake her up was resolved. Think cinnamon and you'll pick up the clue. Hell, I thought it was Xander, shows ya what I know. Anyhoo, onto issue 11....
I cannot say what it is about Buffy Season 8 but I am drawn to it like a moth to a hot flame. I just hope I don't get burned.
Season 8 is nothing short of a masterpiece. I mean, Joss said he could go places in the comic that neither tv nor movies can accomplish and he was right. And to think we have how many more issues in season 8, 30 or so. I read that Joss wants it between 30-50 issues for season 8.
Hey, the more the better!!!
Even more than the new Angel comic season 6 and the beginning of the Star Wars "Vector" year long storyline, is Buffy season 8. And I didn't start watching Buffy until 2005 (sorry got on the train very late) and now I have Buffy novels all over my floor, printouts from the internet of what was said about Buffy going all the way back to season 1. So, it's a lot to take in, in such a short amount of time.
That's it for now folks, see you in Japan. |

Fabulous issue by Whedon and Jeanty. Whedon's writing astounds me by his ability to present drama, comedy, and action without making it one big melodrama.
The exploration of what it means to be a Slayer, and what it means now, post-Chosen One era is thought-provoking. Are there consequences in activating thousands of girls at once? Is there a downside to the upside? Has Buffy accomplished what she thought she wanted to? Has she become cookies yet, according to her own analogy (watch the show finale if you don't understand the reference)?
We have seen the consequences of power in the wrong hands before: Faith pre-repentance, the mentally unstable Slayer on season 5 of Angel, Gigi, and now, Simone and her posse of gun-toting Slayers.
But the issue has never been explored from Buffy's POV. There really hasn't been that much introspection since she decided that her power was meant to be shared, not hoarded.
The beginning monologue leads into this, detailing how saving the world means keeping the status quo and how apocalypses come because the world's trying to change. What happens then is either chaos, or moving forward to something better.
In the finale, Buffy changes the status quo by sharing her power. But whether or not it really means that she's stepped in the right direction is now in question. Did she really move on to something better, or did she hurl the world into chaos?
That's the question that she struggles with, once her moral certainty receives a thrashing from "Twilight", the Big Bad of the season.
Confirmation of the identity of Buffy's mystery kiss is also given, and the scene is handled sensitively and believably.
Jeanty's artwork suffers occasionally from some funky coloring... there are moments where Buffy's forehead looks slightly distorted. But other than that, this was a great issue. |
