Hundreds of years in the future, Manhattan has become a deadly slum, run by mutant crime-lords and disinterested cops. Stuck in the middle is a young girl who thought she had no future, but learns she has a great destiny. In a world so poisoned that it doesn't notice the monsters on its streets, how can a street kid like Fray unite a fallen city against a demonic plot to consume mankind? Joss Whedon, the celebrated creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, brings his vision to the future in this unique tale. As inventive in the comics medium as in that of television or film, Whedon spins a complex tale of a skilled thief coming of age without the help of friends or family, guided only by a demonic Watcher.

* Joss Whedon, creator of Fray and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been nominated for Nebula, Hugo and Emmy Awards as well as an Oscar!

* All of the first 7 Fray comic books have gone to second printings with the first issue enjoying a third printing! Combined sales have reached over 200,000 copies!

* Fray artist, Karl Moline, has created art for Dark Horse, Marvel, Harris and Crossgen Comics!

Joss continues the Buffy story line and takes it in a great "Elseworlds" style direction. I loved the fun, futuristic bits (ray guns, flying cars, etc.) tied in with the realities that one could expect from a future world (huge rich/poor divide, sprawling cities).

My favorite part about this book is the classic, dry and sarcastic wit that Whedon infuses in his characters. I could really visualize the blank stares that an actor might give in disbelief as they gave a snarky comment and that really comes from the fantastic art. Great book and I got it for a good price on the site too!

  • Jan 03, 2010 John from Ohio

This was wonderful... A rich new slayer storyline, great characters, an engaging slayer, and an open ending. Beautiful, rough, and somehow familiar.

There aren't enough stars to give Fray! If Joss Whedon has his hands on a project you just know it will be good. But, he out did himself on this one. LOVED IT!!!

Awesome story. Great penciling. Beautiful Artwork! Great names Joss Whedon, Karl Moline, Andy Owens and Dave Stewart. One of the best comic series I've had the pleasure to read.

  • Jul 26, 2008 Lila from Seattle, WA

True to form, Joss Whedon makes me laugh at the twisted humor and then cry when the hero is confronted with mortality. I highly recommend this book.

  • Jul 14, 2008 Paul from Utah

Came fast and in good condition

  • Jun 13, 2008 Jeff from Toms River

Artwork was excellent, story for Whedon was a bit on the slackish side, but worth the read.

  • May 18, 2008 Karen from IL

I keep going back and re-reading this one - of all the comics in the Whedonverse, this is my absolute favorite... and one of my favorite things in the Whedonverse, period. Karl Moline's drawings are a joy as well.

  • May 16, 2008 Nikki from Virginia

A true Whedon adventure cover to cover. As a big Joss fan, I thought I'd just check it out and was immediately sucked in. There's definitely a new Slayer on the block and in my heart.

  • Sep 22, 2007 Jeffrey from Orlando

  • Sep 12, 2007 Robert from Seattle, WA

Thoroughly entertaining! Great art and, of course, snappy Joss dialog. Good stuff.

  • Sep 06, 2007 Scott from Utah

Amazing addition to the Buffy legacy. Having Fray not have the full slayer palate of skills and knowledge added to the interest in the character.

If the brother is killed in the future stories and that allows the past connection with the slayer line, that sudden epiphany would be interesting as well.

  • Aug 09, 2007 Stacey from Canada

Great series! Really miss Joss and his slayers.

  • Aug 06, 2007 Doug from work

Great story. Joss is terrific. I hope he does more with the Fray story. If you like Buffy, you will love Fray.

  • Jul 31, 2007 Rohan from Australia

A great story, well drawn - a fitting extension to the Buffy TVS saga.

  • Jul 12, 2007 Dana Longley from Albany

Possibly one of the greatest graphic novels I've ever read!

  • Jul 06, 2007 Josh from Poway, California

This was absolutely a great addition to the slayer universe! I hope there are more Fray issues to come in the near future!

  • May 29, 2007 Harold from New York

It arrived quickly, sealed, and brand spanking new.

  • May 01, 2007 Kristin from USA

Intriguing story. Well written dialogue. Evocative imagery.

  • Apr 27, 2007 Enrique from San Antonio, TX

If you're a fan of Joss Whedon's writing style and his characters, this is a must have!

  • Apr 20, 2007 Xian from Milwaukee, WI

Fantastic writing here, and I love the art style that went along with Whedon's post-apocalyptic future (in his own words, flying cars). His characters are memorable (seriously, who didn't love Loo?) and Melaka Fray is every bit as enigmatic as her predecessors, cast as an unwitting hero who must make do with her non-100% slayer status (interesting plot line there).

Part of the strength of the story arc is Whedon's ability to tell us a story and make us care, in this case how a street-thief must rise above the slums to lead as well as earn her legacy the hard way. It's a great read all the way through.

  • Apr 09, 2007 Nick from UK
