A murder in a New York wax museum and a missing corpse lead Hellboy and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense into ancient Romanian castles on the trail of a sleeping legend: the nobleman vampire, Vladimir Guirescu. Nazi scientists, revived in Hellboy: Seed of Destruction, prepare for the return of Rasputin and the end of the world, and Hellboy confronts his purpose on Earth.
Dark Horse presents new editions of the entire Hellboy line with new covers, beginning with Seed of Destruction, the basis of director Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film. Hellboy is one of the most celebrated comics series in recent years. The ultimate artists' artist and a great storyteller whose work is in turns haunting, hilarious, and spellbinding. Mike Mignola has won numerous awards in the comics industry and beyond. When strangeness threatens to engulf the world, a strange man will come to save it. Sent to investigate a mystery with supernatural overtones, Hellboy discovers the secrets of his own origins, and his link to the Nazi occultists who promised Hitler a final solution in the form of a demonic avatar.
" Hellboy is a passport to a corner of funnybook heaven you may never want to leave. "
--Alan Moore, from his introduction.
I just recently got into Hellboy and I've bought quite a few books but I have to say this one is my favorite so far. Love the story, the art, the characters. I really enjoyed the final fights with the baddies. Great read.

Ok, unthawed Nazi's and remnants of vampire forces from the 19th century are excellent bad guys for this series continuation. The artwork and plot did not fail to please.

Wake the Devil takes off from the first Hellboy TPB Seed of Destruction. A murder in a New York wax museum and a missing corpse lead Hellboy into ancient Romanian castles on the trail of a sleeping legend: the original nobleman vampire. The feel of the story is all too engaging as at every page turn, you wish this book would never end. Another great story about Hellboy

Mike Mignola really outdid himself on this graphic novel, he really made the character "Hellboy" into what he really is very dark, interesting short stories. I love it!

Since a new series ( Hellboy: Conqueror Worm) is coming out very soon (why not pre-order your copies today and save 10%!), it's a good time to read Mike Mignola's Hellboy masterpiece: Wake the Devil. If you haven't read Wake the Devil, then you must order this today! It is so good and it's got all the elements I love in comics...suspense, rocket packs, nazis, and the big red guy himself--HELLBOY!

I have to admit - I've had mixed feelings about Hellboy comics in the past. Mike Mignola's artwork is really stunning to look at - great eye candy. And the subject matter - fascinating, accessible, and esoteric all at the same time. Sounds great so far, right? But the overall plots of most Hellboy stories sometimes don't hold my interest like I think they should. Imagine my delight upon reading this book when I discover a subject matter and a cohesive plot that make this a real page-turner! This is one of the best Hellboy story arcs, in my humble opinion - you won't be disappointed!
