Dark Horse presents new editions of the entire Hellboy line with new covers, beginning with Seed of Destruction, the basis of director Guillermo del Toro's first Hellboy film. Hellboy is one of the most celebrated comics series in recent years. The ultimate artists' artist and a great storyteller whose work is in turns haunting, hilarious, and spellbinding. Mike Mignola has won numerous awards in the comics industry and beyond. When strangeness threatens to engulf the world, a strange man will come to save it. Sent to investigate a mystery with supernatural overtones, Hellboy discovers the secrets of his own origins, and his link to the Nazi occultists who promised Hitler a final solution in the form of a demonic avatar.

"Hellboy restores my faith in the joy of comic books."

--Clive Barker

Being someone who has never read any of the other "Hellboy"s before, I found this collection of stories to be a good stand-alone read. The short sagas range from funny to disturbing, lighthearted to deeply and darkly religious, but all of them were awesome and entertaining. However, I do have to say: while some of the stories were really good, a few weren't so much. "The Iron Shoes" was just a page-filler, and the tale of the Baba Yaga was just plain odd. The art, while fresh and interesting, wasn't "great" per se, as it's very simplistic most of the time, but it's still visually engaging. But, I would still reccomend the collection for anyone considering it.

Probably the best TPB I have bought in a while. Hellboy is continuing to amaze me as I keep reading his stories. Unlike Vol. 1 and 2, this TPB includes several stories instead of just one. Stories including "The Corpse", which is just laugh out loud funny, and "The Wolves of Saint August", which is one the scariest stories of Hellboy, all bring together a great graphic novel that includes great writing, great art, and a great collection of stories. Can't wait to read Hellboy Vol. 4!!!
