Acclaimed suspense novelist and New York Times best-selling author Joe Hill (Heart-Shaped Box) creates an all-new story of dark fantasy and wonder: Locke & Key. Written by Hill and featuring astounding artwork from Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them... and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all...

Locke & Key creator Hill has received the Bram Stoker Award for Best Fiction Collection, the British Fantasy Award for Best Collection and Best Short Story, and the Sydney J. Bounds Best Newcomer Award-2007, among his growing collection of critical accolades. This collection of Locke & Key, in development as a major motion picture by Dimension Films, features an introduction by Robert Crais, author of the best-selling Elvis Cole novels.

This is so ridiculously good. I could just tell by the cover when I got this that I would not be disappointed. The art isn't necessarily the most realistic graphics or creepy sketching like dead space comics, it's more vibrant and a lot like the walking dead art work. It works and it almost seemed like some of the colors (especially blood) would gleam or shine in the light a little bit. The story was very cool. We are left in the dark about a lot of the stuff which is ok because it (obviously) adds to the mystery without cheapening the thrill. It is very dark with violence, plenty of blood and death, along with other questionable scenes. This was the darker hour genre I wanted. It's a comic so I wasn't expecting to be scared/terrfied of what I saw but I wanted something with a darker theme with some super natural aspect, this being a creepy old house filled with mysterious, and Locke & Key 1 more than delivered. I cannot wait to read the next part and keep the story going to learn more about the mystery of the house and what happens next.

Locke & Key Vol. 1 is an excellent start to an awesome series. Great writing by Mr. Hill, I'm currently reading Horns also by this author. It's become clear to me that there is no shortage of good authors in the King family. Gabriel Rodriguez's artwork is almost cartoon-like and is a welcome contrast to a very mature story.

I've already read Vol. 2 & 3 as well and I anxiously anticipate number 4. Also looking forward to the proposed TV adaption, can't wait for more Locke & Key!
