They own the darkness, feeding on the blood of the innocent, sleeping in the earth away from the killing sunlight. The children of the grave. The undead. Vampires. A legend as compelling and disquieting today as in its primal origins, vampire lore continues to influence and inspire the creative vision of writers and artists around the globe. Now, in association with Éditions Carabas of France, Vampires comes to America, available for the first time in an English-language edition. Featuring an international lineup of some of comics' greatest talents, including Bryan Talbot, Philippe Caza, Benoît Springer, David Lloyd, Mike Mignola, Tommy Lee Edwards, Richard Marazano, Gary Gianni, Yoann and Sfar, and others, Vampires is a stunning, full-color, oversized hardcover graphic album that showcases a wide range of visions, both hideously dark and whimsically light, of these mythic creatures of the night.

The first story in this book has great art and an interesting premise, but suffers from being too short to have realistic characterisations. "Sire" is very interesting both in concept and presentation, and leaves you still with questions, but not unsatisfied. Ultimately though the best offerings in this book are the full-page illustrations and the humourouse comics at the end. Probably best for vampire fanatics only and not those dabbling in the genre.

  • Aug 11, 2010 Angela from Madrid, Spain

This book has mixed assortment of stories with a bit of "horror" (not scary at all) and humor. Some were really good but others were a bit poor.

  • Jan 05, 2008 Gillian from Houston

This book was a beatiful mix of stories and "random" graphics that fit so perfectly. It's like a story book with teeth, but nice.

  • Oct 20, 2007 Einel Chaimovich from ISRAEL

Most stories were dumb and childish, a few of the stories were really good though (about two) and had good art (few one page drawings which were cool too). But it wasn't scary or as good as I hoped it would be, but at $5 it wasn't a mistake.

I'm slowly becoming a huge fan of these Dark Horse anthologies. I buy EVERYTHING that has anything by Mike Mignola in it. But I always enjoy the rest of the book as well. Often, this way I come across artists, I wouldn't have met otherwise. Such sweet surprises!

A fantastic anthology, I found it highly entertaining and am proud to showcase it.

  • Mar 28, 2007 Nuno from Portugal

What a pearl. I'm normally suspicious about these type of showcases, with several stories from top artists / writers. But this one is very good. Some of the stories, although short, are very well built and creative. A very good treat, even if you're not a Vampire-theme fan, like myself.
