How many hours are in a day when you don't spend half of them watching television? When is the last time any of us really worked to get something that we wanted? How long has it been since any of us really needed something that we wanted?

The world we knew is gone. The world of commerce and frivolous necessity has been replaced by a world of survival and responsibility. An epidemic of apocalyptic proportions has swept the globe causing the dead to rise and feed on the living. In a matter of months society has crumbled, no government, no grocery stores, no mail delivery, no cable TV.

I, like many other people, got into The Walking Dead because of the TV series. I've only read the first issue before this and was glad to finally get my hands on it. This collects the first 6 issues, which are similar to the first 4 episodes of the TV series. There are some different twist in the comics, such as the end of issue 6 where it kills one of the main characters that didn't(yet) die in the show. The Walking Dead isn't ment to be a gory plotless zombie series(even has a intro explaining this), it focuses more on the characters. Because of this, The Walking Dead is a extremely great story. I would recommend it to anyone, however it's still a zombie comic, so there is gore, and there is language, so it's up to the reader to decide if it's for them or not. However I loved it, and I can't wait to read more.

Amazing, one of the best graphic novels i have picked up.It rivals Y: The Last Man, Preacher, and Transmetropolitan.

  • Apr 16, 2010 Luke Zwanziger from Enterprise, OR

Oh man! Now I understand why this series is so hyped. I haven't read the entire series, but I am dying to after reading this TPB.

Kirkman's writing certainly favors a character driven story and you will get your full cup here. If you are looking for something beyond the average hack and slash zombie comic, and find yourself pining for something with a little more depth, look no further than here. The zombie slaying is merely a great bonus to a great comic!

One of the best series you can read in these days. The good thing about TPBs is that you don't have to wait one month to keep reading. You will find black & white with grays and realistic characters. Once I started reading, didn't stop until finish it.

I caught on late to this series. On a whim I picked it up and I've been hooked. The storytelling and artwork are great. This is a true modern classic!

  • Oct 20, 2007 Jim from EH, CT

This is a great series that starts very badly. I have read 3 issues so far & this one was the worst. The whole first half felt very rushed. Good thing this issue ends with a bang & leaves you wanting more.
